We’ve been playing out Van Dance by Good City Modern recently on Phoenix FM, and we caught up with the band to find out a little bit more about their life and music.
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
Our music is designed to make you jump and dance while the lyrics tell stories of acceptance and love.
When did you first start to develop a passion for music?
We were all part of marching band growing up. Billy and Ian were in the drum line and Kat and Andre were in the low brass section playing Trombone and Baritone. We started writing our own music to perform as a band as early as 2009 but didn’t publicly perform originals until 2013.
Which artists did you listen to while growing up?
The Pixies, Modest Mouse, Third Eye Blind, The Subways, Finger Eleven, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, and The Strokes.
How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?
Alternative Emo Punk Rock, to encourage you to dance!
What music have you recorded and released to date?
We have over a decade of material that spans to around 30-50 songs all recorded primarily in a closet.
Who do you enjoy listening to right now and do they influence your songwriting?
Idles, Flogging Molly, and DropKick Murphys. They are huge inspirations for our live show performances.
Who would your dream collaboration be with?
Idles or Flogging Molly
What are your plans for the future?
We want to be known throughout Texas, then the states, then the world. Not for money, for love and community.
