Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette
Our Thursday evening indie presenter (and the station’s training supremo) Gareth Williams has been chatting to musicians on his Bumper To Bumper show for several years now – some famous, some not so famous.
This week Gareth had a bit of a coup, chatting to folk rock superstar Frank Turner.
Frank is a lovely guy and always happy to chat to Phoenix FM. I’ve interviewed him myself a few times, first speaking to him way back in 2004 when he was playing with a hardcore punk band, Million Dead, at the Thurrock Music Festival in Aveley. He’s always happy to stop what he’s doing and chat with us, which obviously makes him one of our favourites when we’re out at festivals!
Frank’s star has definitely been on the rise since that first Phoenix FM interview. He was one of the few artists to perform at the Opening Ceremony for the London Olympic Games in 2012. His last five albums have all hit the top 3 in the UK album charts, with his most recent release, FTHC, reaching no 1.
Gareth chatted to Frank this week about his 10th studio album, Undefeated, which is out next month. He also spoke about Frank’s attempt to stage the most gigs in different cities in 24 hours.
You can hear the interview again at phoenixfm.com.
