Organiser Villene gives the rundown on this year’s art trail around town

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

The cream of Brentwood’s art community are out in force once again with this year’s Brentwood Art Trail. Organiser Villene Hyam came in to Roy Tyzack’s Thursday lunchtime show to talk about what to expect.

The Brentwood Art Trail started in 2009 and Phoenix FM was a keen supporter in its early years. We were then broadcasting from the Baytree Centre and, with enormous windows, perfectly placed to host reams of works from local talented artists.

Sadly we stopped hosting pictures when we moved to the Brentwood Centre in 2012 – we’re now too far off the beaten track, and our windows are tiny!

But that doesn’t stop us supporting this fantastic local initiative. Villene spoke to Roy about the history of the trail, exactly where residents can see the artworks and how listeners can join guided tours and meet the artists involved.

This year’s event takes place between 1-30 June and will feature art on display in over 60 venues, weekend art festivals, live street art, creative workshops, artist markets and much more.
