AN estimated 10,000 people enjoyed a rare day of sunshine at the annual charity Billericay Soapbox Derby on Sunday.
Poor weather leading up to the event had organisers sweating but it turned out to be one of the Rotary’s most successful events.
For the seventh edition of the charity spectacular 21 carts raced down London Road to determine the fastest soapbox.
There was a hotly contested battle of the schools too with Brightside Primary coming out on top this year beating their rivals from Quilters.
The winners were;
FASTEST CORPORATE; The Wilderness Explorer (no. 9)
FASTEST STUDENT; Brightside Primary (no.12)
FASTEST WACKY RACER; Team Star Wars (no. 18)
BEST CONSTRUCTED SOAPBOX; Techniq (no. 2)
FASTEST OVERALL SOAPBOX; Team Kapow (no. 15)
A special mention must go to The Barnhall Bandits soapbox with Martin Brown at the wheel who crashed on both runs but on each occasion got back inside to finish the race. He’ll be nursing some bruises this week!
