You may have caught us playing Ahmad Is My Name by Ahmad McCown recently – and we caught up with Ahmad to find out a little bit more about his life and music.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I was born in Georgia, but raised in Delaware. I come from a musical family on my father’s side. My father sings and plays keyboard. I also have uncles who also play various instruments.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

It all began when I was a toddler. At a very young age I was able to quote song lyrics and use a stereo.

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

The first artist that I was introduced to was Tevin Campbell, shout-out to my mother for that. I also listened to legends such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, and Whtiney Houston. As I got older, I became fond of Usher, Musiq Soulchild, Donell Jones, Ne-Yo, and Tyrese.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

I describe my music as R&B mixed with a little Hip-Hop, Pop, and a touch of Jazz. I believe that my music is for those who want to feel inspired and motivated to achieve greatness. Some have described it as “Positive Pop” music.

What music have you recorded and released to date?

I have released four singles: Something New (2020), My Destination (2021), What’s Best For Me (2021), Ahmad Is My Name (2022) Music videos for “My Destination” and “Ahmad Is My Name” are available on YouTube.

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?

I currently enjoy listening to Kevin Ross, H.E.R, Tori Kelly, PJ Morton, and No Guidnce, these great artists have influenced me to continue to maintain my authenticity when it comes to not only music, but lyrical content.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

My dream collaboration would definitely be Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds. He is someone I have always looked up to when it comes to not only performing, but also as a songwriter and a producer. I know he would be a great mentor to have one day.

What are your plans for the future?

My current plan is to continue to promote what I have already released. I also plan on continuing to network via interviews and making appearances both online and in-person. Plus, I plan on learning more about website development and other avenues of entertainment such as acting. Overall, I plan on learning how to expand my brand.

Where can we find out more about you?
