Artist Feature: MacX

You may have heard us playing Sunset Vibes by MacX on a recent Rising Stars show – but who is MacX? We caught up with him to find out more about his life and music.

Tell us a little bit about your yourself?

My real name is Maximilian Wartinger, I am from Vienna/Austria and currently 23 years old. I work under the aliases DJ MacX as well as MacX.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

When I started to listen to music on my father’s old HiFi Equipment as a child. I started to like electronic music and found out that it was possible to produce music on the computer through software.

It was the time when Avicii had his breakthrough. I was around 12 at that time and I started to experiment with the iPad app Garage Band.

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

I listened a lot to electronic music from Avicii, Dj Antoinne, Darius and Finley.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

It’s hard to put into a category, as I have produced many genres up to this date. But overall – oldschool inspired, melodic and sometimes very atmospheric.

What music have you recorded and released to date?

Mostly trance music, with some exemptions. Then I was also into German rap/hiphop music for some time.

I worked together and produced some rappers in Vienna and put up instrumentals on my YouTube channel.

Now I try out different styles and also made some trance tracks again recently.

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?

I currently enjoy listening to Onova, an amazing trance producer.

When it comes to genres, I listen the most right now to trance and 80s music as well as a lot of Serbian pop music.

My trance releases, especially my early ones were strongly inspired by Onova.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

Onova.

What are your plans for the future?

To try out different styles of music and release an album or EP.
