We’ve been playing I Can’t Breathe, a fantastic new reggae track from Don Pelo. But who is he? We caught up with him to find out …

Tell us a little bit about your yourself?

I was born in Haiti – I’m from a shanty town in Carrefour, just outside the capital Port-au-Prince. I’m a US Army veteran who went to war with my guitar and I became a changed man after my deployments.

My historical and inter-political knowledge gives my music a purpose into existence.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

I started my journey towards music at an early age. My first guitar was self-made from an old USAID oil can, a piece of flat wood, bottle caps and fishing lines – then my passion had begun!

What music have you recorded and released to date?

My debut was with The Black Haitian Fellows in Haiti, with their radio release “Sexy Cocotte”. This first showed my emphasis on vocal techniques.

In September 2014, I toured Germany after the release of “Ganja Love”, a single that made lots of noise across the stages in Europe.

My first album “THE ENVELOPE” was released in January 2020. This album is a statement on the directions that I would like to take my music; an album that focuses on what matters in our lives.

What are your plans for the future?

A second album, the “EXIT” will be available with many great tunes with extraordinary sound and lyrics. My new single “I CAN’T BREATHE” is taken from this album and is already making lots of noise.
