Concept artist Keeley writes songs about an unsolved murder

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

If you’re old enough to remember the 70s and 80s you may remember “concept albums” from bands like Genesis, Pink Floyd, Yes and Marillion, but could you name a concept artist?

We welcomed a fantastic guest into the Phoenix FM studio last week in the shape of Keeley Moss, lead singer and guitarist of her own band which goes under the name of Keeley.

Keeley visited Jo Bailey’s Drive show to talk about her music and the subject she writes all of her songs about – the unsolved murder of Inga Maria Hauser, a German tourist who went missing in Northern Ireland in 1988, aged just 18.

Keeley describes herself as a concept artist with a purpose to give Inga a voice and writes all her songs about the subject. They’ve caught the ear of Undertones guitarist Damian O’Neill, who has signed her to his Dimple Discs record label.

She is also a blogger and has been examining the murder in her blog The Keeley Chronicles which now has a worldwide following.

Keeley talked on air about her music and her new album Floating Above Everything Else, and played some songs live in the studio too.

The band are currently undertaking a tour of the UK and I got to see Keeley live on stage the following evening – not in Brentwood, but in Bristol, supporting 80s/90s indie pop legends The Darling Buds at the Thunderbolt. It was a fantastic performance and really brought the stories to live with some amazing energy.

You can hear the interview and session again at phoenixfm.com and find out more about Keeley at thekeeleychronicles.wordpress.com.
