Fatima Whitbread is well known to the British public as a sporting legend. She’s a former World Champion and World Record Holder in the javelin and has won medals at Olympic, European and Commonwealth level too.
She’s still very much in the public consciousness – as well as appearances on I’m A Celebrity last year, she was honoured in December with the Helen Rollason Award for outstanding achievement in the face of adversity.
Fatima has also been a good friend of the station over the years too, having appeared as a guest on our very first broadcast way back in 1996 (coincidentally, along with Helen Rollason) and then from time to time ever since.
So it was great to welcome Fatima back to the studio this week. She popped into Jo Bailey’s Drive show to talk about Fatima’s UK Campaign.
The campaign protects and supports children and young people by providing practical and emotional care and support, making sure they are seen, heard, and valued.
Fatima talked about the campaign with Jo and how she aims to bring lasting improvements to the lives of young people.
Fatima has always been a tireless supporter of children’s rights. As someone who spent most of their childhood in care, she is passionate about helping those in care and care leavers.
