I don’t normally get excited about computer games, but there are 3 upcoming releases that I’m in a bit of a quiver over – I don’t mind telling you!

First up is Star FoX Zero. Yes my friends, Fox McCloud and the gang are back and it looks absolutely beautiful.

star-fox-zero

I’m pleased to report that there seems to be very little deviation from the precedent set back on the SNES version of the 90’s (although back then it was called Lylat Wars or some such in the uk).

We are in very familiar territory here with this scrolling 3d shoot em up, that offers us the iconic Airwing and tank to pilot but also from the looks of the trailer, we have the opportunity to pilot remote drones and even run around levels too in a quasi Star Wars AT-ST! Going by previous instalments, I would imagine this isn’t the norm and the Airwing will be the main vehicle of choice.

It looks like the free combat levels are present too, as well as the giant bosses to battle – though with the monolithic bosses of Tank Tank Tank, I’m not sure how impressive they will be.

In the end though, Star Fox Zero is a long awaited addition and revival to the Wii U family and one I cant wait to play. Release date set for Q4 of 2015, so expect it in time for Christmas! Here’s the trailer from E3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puvW4NmaiOo

Next up on our list is one I found by chance. Super Mario Maker. An idea that is perfect for the Wii U game pad and touch screen controls.

SI_WiiU_SuperMarioMaker_v01

In this game players can create limitless Super Mario levels to play, where only the imagination is the limitation. Levels are literally sketched on the game pad to come to life in the game, with what looks like a very intuitive draw, drag and drop interface. There are 6 different styles of level which equate to different Worlds in Super Mario (I don’t know, but I would imagine; Plains, Underground, Sky, Under Water, Castle, Haunted House… just my guess!).

super-mario-maker-wii-u-640x378

The part that has most attracted me though is with the touch of a button the graphics will switch between those of 4 versions of Super Mario; Super Mario Bros 1 and 3 on the NES, Super Mario World on the SNES and Super Mario Bros on the Wii U. Add to that a host of unlockable costumes via tasks or the Amiibo functionality, and the chance to share or download player created maps on line, and we have one seriously good addition to the Super Mario Franchise. Not long to wait because its out in September! Here’s the E3 trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwO09vJAPDs

Finally and best of all… The Legend of Zelda Wii U!

Lets be clear, Zelda is one of the greatest game franchises ever created and has topped the poll many times of the best games to play. Skyward Sword on the Wii was incredible and utilised motion control to great effect, but to be blunt, what we have seen of the Wii U Zelda game is quite simply stunning. Unfortunately what we have seen, is not very much!

The only details we really have are from the trailer and interview(s…2 of them!) that have been released of the game. Frustratingly it was due for release this year but has been put back to 2016. We are assured its to make sure the game will be perfect, and knowing how perfect previous Zelda games have been, here’s hoping it will be.

The screen shot above shows the interactive world link can explore. Look very closely… see the tiny castles, forests, mountains and volcanoes in the distance? Apparently link can walk to any point you can see on the screen. Look at the distances! That then means there is world to explore whose vastness could be unprecedented! And knowing the zelda games attention to detail it will be beautiful.

Really cant wait for this one, I’m a huge Zelda fan and by all accounts it will be incredible. Out some time in 2016. Just one question though… why the blue tunic Link!?… lets hope the green one is just in the wash! E3 trailer and interview here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZmxvig1dXE
