PHOENIX SPORT 11/5/24

This week, I was pleased to welcome as my special guests Bob Theobald and Terry Smith from Brentwood Bowling Club, ahead of the club’s open weekend on 18th and 18th May.

It was a memorable day for Romford FC, who won the FA Vase at Wembley beating fellow Essex Senior League side Great Wakering Rovers by three goals to nil, and became the first ESL side since Stansted 40 years ago to win the trophy.

Andy Gardener was our reporter at the final and as well as providing a full-time summary, he also picked up the post-match thoughts of victorious Boro manager Dan Spinks.

Another local sports club who had a memorable day at an iconic sporting venue were Southend Saxons RFC, who crowned a memorable campaign by beating Northampton Old Scouts 35-26 in the Regional Two Championship final at Twickenham.

In Cricket, the Essex Cricket League returned for a new season and in the Premier Division, Brentwood enjoyed an excellent start to their campaign as they beat reigning champions Hornchurch by 25 runs in their opening fixture.
