Body talk 5/12/12

Tonight my guest was Dr Andy Hughes, consultant haematologist at Brentwood Community Hospital, which is part of South West Essex Community Services run by North East London NHS Foundation Trust.

Asa haematologist, Dr Hughes work in the community has been invaluable. So much can be identified about a persons health from testing their blood. This is often the first test that a doctor will refer their patient to. But after having had a very varied career, Dr Hughes has settled back in Brentwood to work on his latest project, keeping people out of hospital. He has devised a wonderful system that allows him to link in via the internet to doctors and their surgeries. There is no need for paperwork to be passed from one desk to another. Now all the information is logged on line. You don’t have to wait weeks for the results either. It’s on line in an instant. So simple yet until now has been impossible.

Dr Hughes spent much of his early career working in Gambia. It was certainly a lot different over there, and for the most part enjoyable, but after the arrival of their 2 children Dr Hughes and his wife decided to return to the UK. Luckily for us he did and now we can enjoy the benefits of his good work, which he is still continuing to develop.
