As lock down begins to ease and we have a little more freedom, we need to be taking even more care to stay virus free. The main way we can do this is to make sure our living spaces are germ free to minimise chances of spreading the infection.
In the kitchen make sure you disinfect surfaces like kitchen counters and door handles which are touched frequently.
Wash cleaning cloths in a bleach based disinfectant to kill bacteria that may be lurking on the cloths.
When shopping ordering a home delivery is safer than going into the shop, but as the items may have been touched by the virus it’s a good idea to wash outer surfaces where possible, bit the virus doesn’t tend to survive on packaging. Ten minutes in the sun kills most viruses on packages, so you might like to leave them outside for a while.
If someone in your house contracts the virus make sure you have separate plates and utensils for them, and separate bathroom items.
The virus can remain on clothes for 2 or 3 days so it’s important to wash clothes thoroughly when you come home, maybe change at the door if you’ve been in a particularly obvious danger zone like a hospital. Washing at 60 degrees centigrade can help, and always either bin or wash face face masks. Maybe put a box by the door for outdoor shoes too.
Fill your fridge with immunity bolstering food such as fruit and veg and also live yoghurts, filling up on sugary snacks will add to weight gain which can lower your immune system.
Make sure you disinfect your mobile phone too, use an antiseptic wipe but not water or bleach as this will damage your phone.
Keep washing your hands as usual and if we remain vigilant we will wipe out the virus.
