Body Talk 8/5/13

This week I was joined by Nikki Cambo, Lead Aesthetic Nurse at Spire Hartswood Hospital. Nikki qualified as a registered nurse in 2006 from St Bartholomews School of Nursing and Midwifery at City University London. She specialises in non-surgical cosmetic procedures and skin rejuvenating treatments and was talking about the laser hair reduction service now available at the Hartswood.

With laser hair reduction, every hair that is targeted is permanently destroyed but it isn’t possible to to target hairs that haven’t grown through the skin. Most people will require several sessions to get hairs at different growth stages and occasional maintenance afterwards.

A pulse of light is fired at the skin’s surface and absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft. This heats and destroys the hair and doesn’t harm the skin.

It works best on dark hair because dark hair contains more pigment to absorb light. Fair hair can respond well to but white hair and very blond hair won’t respond.

All parts of the body can be treated, and patients have likened the sensation to an elastic band flicking against the skin.

If you are interested in laser hair reduction call the treatment  inquiry line on 01277 266761 and book a free consultation with Nikki on a Wednesday evening.
