Artist Profile: Emily Daccarett

We’ve been playing Emily Daccarett’s latest track Growin’ Addiction here on Phoenix FM recently … and we caught up with Emily to talk about her life and music.

Tell us a little bit about your yourself?

I’m a fashion designer and singer/songwriter. I love fantasy and creating stories with my work by using different forms of media.

For my debut runway show, I had produced a short film to show before the catwalk, but getting the license of the French song I wanted to use was taking too long.

This is how I got in contact with film composer, S. Peace Nistades, and because I speak and write in French, I wrote the lyrics and provided the vocals. We started working on the song right away and I fell in love with songwriting.

Since then we collaborated on original music for my collections. Overtime I felt the drive to learn how to produce myself. I wanted to write music in the same way I design collections; working with colour, texture, mood, etc.

I took some time to learn different software and work on my writing. That’s how my ep, ‘Cannibal’ began.

After I had the demos ready, I went back to Peace and we started working on my new sound.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

Music has been a huge part of my life. My love for it began when I was put into dance when I was 5 years old by my mom.

It’s difficult to describe the connection I felt each time we performed. It always felt like I stepped into another world as soon the music would start.

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Blondie, Bonnie Tyler, ABBA, Michael Jackson, and Shakira.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

It’s a blend of 80’s pop, dream pop, and 70’s rock with a cinematic flair. I try to create a sort of escapism with my music. To retreat to the corners of their imagination and dream away.

What music have you recorded and released to date?

The first music I recorded was back in 2015 and it was for my fashion shows. My debut EP as a pop singer, is called Cannibal 2019 and my single Love Chain in 2020.

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?

Current artists I’m listening to are Khelani, Lana Del Rey, Petit Meller, Dua Lipa, and Harry Styles. I go back and forth, there’s so much great music coming out now, but I just love 70’s rock and 80’s pop.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

Vanessa Paradis.

What are your plans for the future?

I’m working on my next album! I’m also working on a new collection inspired by the songs I’m currently writing.
