Joy Lewis is an international singer/songwriter. Her music has been heard in more than 100 countries. Her music has used in more than 75 television and media placements, including: Power, R&B Divas, The Real O’Neals, Real Housewives of Cheshire and Second Chance at Love just to name a few.
Joy’s music combines melodic groove with smooth melodies delivering a pure and positive message of hope and inspiration. Ohio-born singer/songwriter wants you to focus on her music and not her persona, which she does by delivering a magical-sounding R&B confessional where the music feels like a world unto itself. Her one-of-a-kind voice is as intimate as a whisper luxuriating in real love. Joy’s vulnerable lyrics and ballads push you to want better for yourself while experiencing your musical journey with her.
We caught up with Joy to find out more about her.
When did you first start to develop a passion for music?
As a teenager, I would play Boyz II Men on my cassette player. I would get excited to hear the vocal harmonies, and I would play them back over and over to learn each part. I fell in love with the beauty of harmonized singing, which grew my interest in music.
Who are your musical influences?
My musical influences are Michael Jackson, Boyz II Men, Brandy, Joe, and Kim Burrell.
How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?
My music is soulful R&B with a positive message that inspired people to be better. I struggled to find R&B music with a positive message that inspired people to be better. I decided to take a leap of faith and make music that I wanted, but couldn’t find.
What music have you recorded and released to date?
I released my EP, My Heart, in 2014.
Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment?
I am listening to SZA, Summer Walker, Chris Brown and Jor’dan Armstrong.
Who would your dream collaboration be with?
My dream collaboration would be Lecrae. I’ve followed his career for years, and a collaboration with such a great rapper would push my music over the top.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m currently working on a few singles that reflect where I am in my life. More to come in the coming months.
