We went back to the 80s last week with two great exclusive interviews, both on the same morning!
Mike Porter kicked things off with a chat with Kevin Rowland from Dexys, the band formerly known as Dexys Midnight Runners.
Dexys released their 6th album The Feminine Divine last month, and it became their biggest hit in 41 years, reaching no 6 in the UK album charts, so there’s still an enormous number of fans out there following the band and enjoying their music.
Mike and Kevin talked about the new album and the band’s current tour, which sees them visit the Cliffs Pavilion in Southend on September 17th.
On the very next show Michelle Ward enjoyed some alone time with Thereza Bazar, best known as one half of the pop duo Dollar.
Thereza met with success in her late teens as a member of 1970s group Guys ‘n’ Dolls, who had a big hit in 1975 with There’s A Whole Lot of Lovin’.
She left the band with her bandmate and then-boyfriend David Van Day to form Dollar, who enjoyed several big hits including “Love’s Gotta Hold on Me” in 1979, “Mirror Mirror” in 1981, “Give Me Back My Heart” in 1982 and “Oh L’amour” which hit Top 10s across Europe in 1987.
Michelle spoke to Thereza about Oh L’Tour – her current tour cunningly named after that big hit – and what it’s like to bring the band’s music to new audiences across the UK.
Both interviews can be heard again at www.phoenixfm.com. And of course we’re still interviewing lots of local, unsigned acts too – we enjoy music across the spectrum, young and old, near and far.
