Artist Feature: COY Swede

We caught up with Swedish EDM artist COY Swede to find out more about his life and music.C

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m Thom Maximus Holmberg, an artist and producer from Stockholm.

What is your background in music?

I have a classical orchestral background and am also a drummer and percussionist when I was younger too, so I have been making music for many years.

What does COY Swede mean?

It’s the pseudonym I use to create my music – meaning the “shy classy Swede” … in a way.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Avicii – my track, You Are, is dedicated to him and my dad first of all.

Other inspirations include Massive Attack, Coldplay, Years and Years, Laleh, Robyn, Meja and Ricky Martin. But overall, I will dive into any genre – the music must grab you in a certain way.

How would you describe your sound?

I have been told that my sound is quirky, yet classy and astute.

What tracks have you released to date?

I have a number of tracks up on streaming services at the moment, all released over the last two years, including Can’t Wait No More, Calling Out For You, Lose Heart, World On Fire, You Are, Fixing Us and my newest track Believe In Us.

You Are is your most popular track on Spotify at the moment with over 75,000 plays – what can you tell us about that?

It’s an EDM track which I am very proud of – it was mentioned as one of the best tracks of 2020 by music blog Electrowow.

We’re playing Believe In Us on Phoenix FM which is your latest song with Camila Carballo. How did this collaboration come about?

With this new track I wanted to show my wider production talent. I handpick my vocalists very carefully – they must share the same passion as me and feel the music to the core.

Camila flew home from Cyprus where is she studying medicine to record the track during these challenging times. We always check our health very carefully before working in the studio.

What is the message behind the song?

Believe In Us is dedicated to all of us on this planet – to believe, move forward and that you are the best version of yourself that you can be. In fact there is no one like you!

What are your plans for the future?

The future for me is still under planning stage. I don’t seek any specially known artist to work with, it will come with the time is right. It’s a two way agreement with the same passion as I have – that must fit.

Where can we find out more about you?

I have my own official website at www.coyswede.com. I am also on Instagram @coyswedeofficial and you can find Camila @camilacarballop.
