Artist Feature: Read The News

You may have heard us playing the Read The News remix of Klangkarussell’s Sight Of You on Phoenix FM recently – and we caught up with Read The News to find out more about this talented duo.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Ryder Ulmer and alongside my partner and long time best friend Lukas Mayer, we created “Read the News” in 2020. Personally, I’m from a textile background and Lukas had creative agency and has been editing film for years. We have worked on many different projects together, but our joint passion for electronic music truly began in 2019. We fell in love with producing and performing, and thereafter it became all-consuming.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

Well, Lukas has always been fascinated with electronic music or techno to be more precise, and I was also always very much into music, but many various genres.

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

This would be quite a list, but to name some I listened to a lot of hip-hop artists such as N.W.A and Dr Dre but also Daft Punk, The xx and more. Lukas as mentioned was always more on the electronic side, and I remember him showing me Gesaffelstein videos back in the day.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

Volatile, progressive and melodic, with surprise elements.

What music have you released to date?

You can find them at https://read-the-news.com/releases/

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?

There is quite a bit, we were very inspired by Marino Canal and he still does up to date. Also Adriatique, Mind Against, Kiasmos, and more. Nevertheless, we still listen to many other genres, for example, London Grammar is very inspiring to us. I do feel that a wide variety of music inspires our productions in a very positive way.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

Well honestly this is difficult because there are producers in the electronic scene which we would love to collaborate with, as are their singers and songwriters as the names mentioned above. Will have to leave this one open.

What are your plans for the future?

We have some more prominent releases coming out this year, which we are very excited about. Also great promoters and venues in Switzerland and have started playing more shows internationally. Our vision is to grow this more and expand “Read the News” as far as possible.
