Artist Feature: Doug Cash

Singer/songwriter, musician, arranger, producer and performer – Doug Cash is the Oscar Micheaux of rock & soul. He is either old school’s revenge or old school’s last gasp!

Between three of his social platforms Doug have over 2 million plays and streams.

We caught up with Doug to find out more about his life and music.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

My father’s record collection was my first step into the world of music. Songs by Ruth Brown, Gloria Lynne, Dinah Washington, Lambert, Hendricks & Bavan knocked me out at a very young age. At the same time I was enthralled by James Brown, Motown and The Monkees.

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

By the time I was a teenager my tastes were pretty eclectic. Sly & The Family Stone, Earth, Wind & Fire, Bloodstone, Jackson 5, Black Ivory, The Sylvers, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Weather Report, War, Curtis Mayfield, Joni Mitchell, Kiss and The Beatles. At this point I had taught myself bass, rhythm and lead guitar and could play along with anything on the radio.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

Country / Soul.

What music have you recorded and released to date?

Two to three dozen albums, EPs and singles under various names. For example my dance music can be found under Dizzy Miles. My hip hop projects are under Def & Row, Psycho Craig and Lou Jones. My punk music is under Highbone and my metal is under Killhippie.

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?

I listen to the current music in passing and I think Beyonce, Mariah, Carrie Underwood and Adele would be fun to work with. All at the same time. Now that’s a hell of a choir.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

I’ve always wanted to work with Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon. Two of the all time greats.

What are your plans for the future?

I’m going to keep churning out new videos for the remainder of the year. My other goal is to license my music for film, television and games.
