It could now be possible that a low carb diet could help with diabetes. For over 30 years the advice has been to each starchy pasta and potatoes and pesto. The low carb approach can be more effective with weight loss and therefore health in general. Keeping blood sugar under control is vital.  Carbs turn to glucose when digested and therefore don’t help with blood sugar, whereas a low carb diet would obviously be negating the need for drugs to control blood sugar levels. The NHS currently spends £20 billion pounds on diabetes patients and this figure could be considerably reduced by following a different diet.

More than 100,000 people have tried the low carb approach and found it beneficial. Details can be found on the Diabetes UK website. Many have successfully used it to lose weight and to control blood sugar, and they’ve had their medicine doses reduced by doctors.

Although the studies haven’t been done scientifically it seems to make sense to cut sugar or carbs out of the diet to fix the issue rather than give people drugs in order that they can eat sugar and carbs. In studies that have been done people have managed to lose weight and control blood sugar and the findings would at the very least indicate a good case for giving people an informed choice regarding nutrition and the effects.
