Friday Night Extra 6.5.16 Celebrating 5 years of shows.

Tonight marked my fifth anniversary of self operated shows on Phoenix98FM. Thanks are due to Ed Welman for his patient teaching back in 2011. Tonight we played a lot of music that we have discovered with the help of listeners. Jonty brought us a number of news stories. A musical about Pope John Paul is to be staged in his native Poland. We thought this might be very interesting as he had a long and varied life. We also heard about a plane that hit a bird whilst in flight and this made a very large dent in the plane. With the court case in L.A. on 10th of May, we listened again to Taurus by Spirit to compare how this sounded to the intro of Stairway to Heaven. Listeners were shocked. We await to hear the verdict.

Tonight’s playlist

Shires – Made in England
Booker T & MGs – Crazy – show theme
Coldplay – Paradise
PHd – I won’t let you down
Carole King – I feel the earth move – requested by Derek
Lady Antebellum – Golden
Gerry Rafferty – Get it right next time
Carrie Underwood – Something in the water – loved by Rene who apologised to her neighbours for turning it up so loud.
Peter Cincotti – Up on the roof
Ralph McTell – Streets of London
Sting – Fragile
Craig Pruess – Jupiter – requested by Patrick and loved by the listeners.
Fleetwood Mac – Albatross
Sandy Denny & The Strawbs – Who knows where the time goes?
Chris Hadfield – Space Oddity
St. Alban’s Cathedral organ – David Bowie tribute – Life on Mars
Alison Krauss – Baby now that I found you (live)
Joni Mitchel – Both sides now
Spirit – Taurus
Jim Reeves – Distant drums – requested by Phyl
Blood. Sweat & Tears – Spinning Wheel
Joe Stilgoe – Waterloo sunset
Lou Reed – Perfect day
Gregory Porter – The in crowd

Join me in two weeks time as we boldly go into the next five years.
My guest will be Paul Martin from the Great Baddow Open gardens event.
