Bishop Adam Atkinson is the Bishop of Bradwell. Bradwell-onSea is where St. Cedd landed sailing from Northumbria and established the first Christian community in Essex in 653AD. You can still visit the chapel today. Bishop Adam explained that his role covers the area of south Essex, including coastal towns and villages. He sees his task as helping the people of this area to lead the best lives that they can. He also believes he has to be visible throughout the area. On a recent visit to Canvey Island he was very impressed with year five pupils who had been studying theories on the existence of God. Before coming to Essex he had ministered in Bethnal Green for thirteen years. If you missed the interview you really need to catch the recording and hear the details of how a small Christmas initiative of singing around a piano in the street grew to an event attracting 11,000 people. Also how he blessed his hairdresser in a tattoo parlour. Family research unexpectedly discovered that both Bishop Adam and his wife had ancestor that came from Essex.
