Friday Night Extra 5.2.16 with guest Jim Donnell talking about ‘Little Hearts Matter’ children’s heart charity.

BigHeartsCabaretThe studio guest tonight was Jim Donnell. He told us about the charity Little hearts Matter, www.lhm.org.uk This charity offers advice, support and raises awareness of children who are born with only half a heart. There are a few, very complicated and serious heart conditions that a child can be born with that are life limiting. Most sufferers will undergo a series of open heart surgeries, of which the end goal is to effectively re-plumb the body to work off only one chamber instead of the usual two. The surgeries can start within hours of birth and normally the last one is around five years of age. The mortality rate for children with these conditions is approximately 50%. Jim talked movingly about the diagnosis on his daughter, Sydney, who suffers from one of these conditions. Jim and his wife Denyse have organised a fundraising event, ‘Bid Hearts Valentines Cabaret Show’ in aid of the charity at Ingatestone Community Theatre on Saturday 13th of February.
There is a matinee, with doors open at 2pm for a 2.30 start. Tickets are £25 per pair, which includes Afternoon Tea. The Evening show, with doors open at 7.00 for a 7.30 start, costs £30 per pair, which includes a sharing platter. The entertainment is a live variety show, featuring songs, dance, comedy, speciality acts etc. More information and tickets available from Jim on 07768735905 BHC@Denysedonnell.co.uk JustGiving/BigheartsCabaret

We heard that the GCHQ Christmas card puzzle had been won by three people after more than 600,000 had attempted to find the solutions. A new species of black tarantula that lives near Folsom Prison, California, has been named after Johny Cash. It is called Aphonopelma johnnycashi.

I was also joined in the studio tonight by Jonty, who will be assisting me for the next few months, working towards a Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award.
