Friday Night Extra 2nd January 2015. Music for a winter’s night.

There were no guests tonight for our first show of 2015, which was also the ninth day of Christmas. Our theme tonight was music for a Winter’s night, which meant practically anything could be played! We had a brief spell of imagining that we were in South America, some 60s and 70s classics and then music to simply make you feel good. We also looked at some of the odd news stories featured in 2014 and had a few news items. I particularly liked the primary school in Burnley where all 360 children had joined the Scouts and had their meetings in school time on Friday afternoons. There was also the fact that over 80% of the Police due to be on duty in Rome on New Year’s Eve called in sick! And the provincial governor in Turkey who will ban anyone from taking a lift for only going up three flights as a way of tackling obesity.

Tonight’s playlist.
Booker T & MGs – Crazy – show theme
Lady Antebellum – On a winter’s night – inspiration for tonight
Blood, Sweat & Tears – Sometimes in winter
Lady Antebellum – Down South – for all those listening down south in U.S.A, tonight and on Mixcloud.
Shakatak – Christmas in Rio
Clare Teal – Everything is you – keeping the South American theme going.
Stan Getz & Astrid Gilberto – The girl from Ipenema – pure South American
Zombies – This will be our year – will it be your year for keeping New Year’s resolutions?
Fleetwood Mac – Sarah – for Sarah & Lee getting married in Harlow tomorrow.
Andrew Gold – Lonely boy
Carole King – So far away – from Tapestry, which charted again last year 43 year after being released.
Jimmy Smith – Walk on the wild side.
Michael Buble – I haven’t met you yet – for Rene in Austria skiing.
Frank Sinatra – It was a very good year.
Katie Melua – The mockingbird song
Dolly Parton – Joylene – everyone was singing along in the chatroom.
Boney James & Rick Braun – Grazin in the grass
Everley Brothers – Walk right back – for Sue and Leonard and all listening in Kentucky and Tennessee.
Joni Mitchel – A free man in Paris – for Lee
Annie Lennox _ Universal child – for David, Alison, Ben and Anna
Marc Antionne – Children at play
Brenda Russell – Le restaurant
Jeff Lauder – Pacific coast highway
Queen – Bicycle race
Soweto String Quartet – Graceland collection.

Join me next week for another Friday Night Extra. My guest will be Lee Carmichael, pastor at the Ingatestone Elim church. The music will include a nod to Elvis Presley as his birthday is the 8th of January and he would have been 80 years old.
