You may have heard us playing out Life We Live part 2 (featuring Project Pat) from King Camil – but who is he? We caught up with him to find out more about his life and love of music.
Tell us a little bit about your yourself?
I’m King Camil from Kankakee, Illinois.
When did you first start to develop a passion for music?
Hearing Tupac express himself through music.
Which artists did you listen to while growing up?
Tupac, Scarface, Nas, Ice Cube, 8ball, &MJG, Twista.
How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?
Motivational music – which will also be the name of my new album.
What music have you recorded and released to date?
6 albums on Spotify and Apple Music, several singles and a handful of mixtapes. You can find it and buy it on my Bandcamp page.
Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?
J Cole for today.
Who would your dream collaboration be with?
Alive – Sade, Rihanna, R Kell, The Weeknd, Taylor Swift, JellyRoll. Dead – Tupac, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield.
What are your plans for the future?
Keep pumping radio and get as many ears as possible to make an honest living off music.
