One 2 three 17.11.23 Paycockes Tudor Yuletide

Paycockes Tudor Yuletide
One 2 Three
Patrick Sherring

Mistress Anne Paycocke and Housekeeper Margery, transported us back to a Tudor Yuletide at Paycockes House, Coggershall. We heard about the festivities, including music and food, which will be recreated at the house on 25th and 26th of November, 11 am – 4 pm. There will be twenty five characters in full Tudor costumes and at least one in every room in the house. Different activities are happening through and across the days, with characters demonstrating their skills. Mistress Anne (Hilary) and Housekeeper Margery (Eleanor) emphasised that a visitor will be like a fly on the wall in a Tudor house.  Visitors are also encouraged to talk with members of the group. Part of chatting today was in ‘Tudorese’ in character talking about getting the house ready for many visitors “who will come in strange clothing”. The group have been to events at many venues, including Hampton Court and The Tower of London. They have also been involved in the filming of numerous Television programmes.
