We’ve been playing out One Day by Niel Theos on Phoenix FM over the past couple of weeks – but who is Niel? We caught up with him to find out more.
Tell us a little bit about your yourself?
I’m 22. Independent artist from India. Small town. In love with music. I do odd gigs, save up, and put out music.
When did you first start to develop a passion for music?
It’s been like this since I was a kid. I grew up in a traditional house that actively practiced music but it was very different from what I make. Music has been the only thing in my life that’s been constant and has stood beside me through every high and every low. I remember my first year in college- all I did was excavate diff genres and make 10 playlists a week.
Which artists did you listen to while growing up?
Tough to answer. I was just a chaotic mess of Indian, classical, ghazals, EDM, house, rock, metal and hip hop. With time it evolved towards R’n’B, trap, soul, and avant-garde.
How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?
Fresh. Bold.
What music have you recorded and released to date?
I’ve released 4 singles to date. Got an EP coming in a month or so with 4 new tracks along with “one day” – this is my debut project [mix of hip hop/trap, rnb/soul and emo/dark pop]
Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?
I’ve got a lot of artists that influence my work so that might be a dragged-out conversation. Usually, I’ve got a heavy The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, Saint Jhn, Big Sean & XXXTentacion rotation from the day to day. But I’m always exploring new artists.
Where can we find out more about you?
I have a Linktree at linktr.ee/nieltheos and you can also find me on Instagram as wekk.
