You may have heard us playing out Kind Of Girl by Morgane Oll on our recent Rising Stars show – but who is this new rising star? We caught up with her to find out …

Tell us a little bit about your yourself?

I’m an indie singer songwriter from France. My father was a singer and music was often the only safe space with him. Music and singing also saved me from a very unstable and motherless life. Music brought me many emotions and feelings that I was lacking and the ability to express myself better.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

I started to develop a passion for music when I was 6, I was listening to my dad’s album who was a singer in the 70’s. I’ve always found more facility to express myself by singing than by speaking.

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

While growing up I listened to Beattles, Queen and Elton John.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

My music has often a retro vibe, it expresses deep feelings and even when its a bit melancholic there is a sense of warmth and comfort. Five minutes is a very soft song talking about the importancy to spend time with your loved ones even just five minutes. Kind of Girl is more personnal with deep lyrics about separation and reconciliation.

What music have you recorded and released to date?

I recorded and released “Five minutes to love you” which is a lounge jazz song with a vintage vibe. Also “Les fées” which is a medieval style song in french speaking about fantastic creatures : Fairies and the return of spring.

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?

At the moment I listen to a lot of Lana Del Rey, she influences my work because I feel very close to her universe and the way that she uses her voice. I love her songwriting and warm tone of voice.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

My dream collaboration would be with Kevin MacLeod because he knows how to do anything in music, he is a great composer/arranger/musician/artist and his presence on the web is very outstanding.

What are your plans for the future?

My plan for the future is to release several songs, I have an unreleased song called Thankfully which I plan to make a clip for. I’d like to land songs on movies and to learn how to produce my own songs. I also’d like to inspire other people with my music and bring more love and positivity with it.
