Learning and support for school communities provided by group

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

There are many local organisations in Brentwood quietly making a difference to people’s lives and this week we highlighted the work of the Brentwood Schools Christian Worker Trust.

The objective of the Trust is serve school communities by providing Christian learning and support, including providing lessons, pastoral care, assemblies, lunchtime groups and prayer spaces, and developing positive relationships with schools and pupils.  The Trust works with 24 local primary schools and 6 secondary schools.

Ian Kemble and Fiona Mason visited the studio during Patrick Sherring’s lunchtime show to talk about the work they do.  Although the group’s work is undertaken from a Christian viewpoint, the skills they teach are useful even if you are not particularly religious.  For example we heard about the group’s current “It’s Your Move” project which helps children acknowledge their hopes and anxieties when moving schools, and “LifeSpace” which is a careers-related project.

More information about BSCWT can be found at www.bscwt.org and Ian and Fiona can be heard again at www.phoenixfm.com.
