You may have heard us playing Ecoute from French/German electro duo AbsolutUnsa recently – and we caught up with them to find out more about themselves and their music.

Tell us a little bit about your yourself?

We are AbsolutUnsa, a duo founded between Paris and Berlin, in Cologne. We combine our differences without counterfeit, Sylvain the French artist with all his heart and convictions and Sara the innocent German volcano.

With us, it is the yin and the yang that meets. We like to work on our qualities but we also like to work on our faults to make qualities of them.

Sylvain about Sara: “Sara has the greatest laugh in the universe. And the most beautiful tears too.”

We have common battles that we like to defend: The planet, the polar bears, the little prince, the feminine, sensuality… A proposal for all: self-realization. From piano-voice to kinky, real life as guide.

Our target is simply to continue writing and composing, because we love it together. We want to live our intense history and share it without mask.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

We both have the passion for music since we can think. We both love dancing and singing.

Sylvain: After journalism and theatre, I chose the sound to share my differences. Journalism is too political. Theatre is too small and only for the same people. Music crosses walls and borders. My top priority is the fight against climate change.

With Sara and everything, we believe in self-realization as a solution. We think that the one who is honest has neither the time nor the desire to harm others.

Sara is a classical pianist. Sylvain started with a saxophone and jazz. We’ve always made music. We love the sound, the rhythm, the emotion.

When we started to make music, we just wanted to make songs that would make us happy to hear ten years later. It talked to others, so we kept on working.

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

As we are not born in the same decade, it seems very different. For Sylvain it was Prince, Freddy Mercury, Brel, Higelin, Nine inch nail, The Prodigy, rage against the machine, Fela Kuti, Run DMC, funk, funk, funk, techno, Manu le Malin, Miss Kittin, Bowie, Mano Negra, Betty Davis, T Monk, Bill Withers … from classic to hard rock, with mainly electro.

Sara: For me it was Sean Paul, I love his beats and I cannot stand still with it… Others were Dr. Dre, the soundtrack of “Save The Last Dance”, Robbie Williams, Michael Jackson, and German bands and singers like Seeed, Absolute Beginner and Clueso.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

We describe it as natural electro as we like to use instruments or elements for making electronic sounds.

We like to set the pace, make people dance or dream and also question ourselves.

We like to tease and provoke sometimes, we like to create reactions.

We love to create images. With “Ecoute” it’s a sensual, sincere journey to the universe of the feminine.

What music have you recorded and released to date?

With our release “Ecoute”, we invite to listen to the feminine spirit of each one. We are talking about post-equality. The world was built on the phallus. We could try something else.

And there is another song very special for us: “Change”. That beat rocks! The words scream alert! We will fight till the end for the planet. It’s a little psychedelic trance. We prepare its live in 2022.

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?

In fact, we’re not looking for specific inspiration. We have hundreds of vinyls in our studio (an old bunker) in Cologne and a record player.

We decide with our feeling what we like to listen to. We have the tradition to enjoy the music with a glass of Saint Joseph, a delicious red wine.

Sometimes we laugh, sometimes we dance, sometimes we cry or we write… and then after that, we work.

There are so many wonderful things in music. We feel different nuances that we like to share, that’s why we’re here.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

With “Ecoute” we have just lived a strong and intense collaboration with two DJ composers. It’s magical to mix universes.

Birds (yes Birds).

David Bowie.

What are your plans for the future?

We wanna work on our live. Piano-voice, but also an intense electronic part with «Change». Electro, trance, words, commitment, giving everything for the planet. We work with a sampler, a keyboard, a microphone and we give everything.

Soon there will be our new Single “Obeis”, a little bit more funky.

In fact we have a lot of material, we’ll release the album in 2022. It’s a little bit frustrating to have all this material finished and have to wait to share it.

And as we love the work with images, we will continue to create videos.

We dream that we can continue our musical work to inspire more and more people in the whole world.
