Artist Feature: MELØ

We’ve been playing out Mysteria, the new single from MELØ on Phoenix FM recently – but who is he? We caught up with him to find out.

Tell us about yourself:

I go by the artist name, MELØ ( pronounce Me-Lo)

I was born and raised in Canada,
growing up in Windsor, Ontario.
It is a border city to Detroit,
known as South Detroit.
Having grown up in Windsor/Detroit area,
I was consumed by the blend of Detroit diverse music scene as musical influences, Detroit techno, Detroit punk, rock to even Motown.

What artists did you listen to growing up:

I grew up listening to everything New Wave 80’s/90’s, Mainly inspired by artists such as Depeche Mode, David Bowie, The Cure, INXS,New Order, Tears for Fears, Prince, Echo and the Bunneymen.

How would you describe your music?

It’s a Retro-futuristic sound combined with 80’s New Wave with modernized production. emotion laced vocals. Feelings of nostalgia, inspired by both joy and tragedy that life has to offer, both combined with the light and dark side of melody.

What music have you recorded and released?

My debut single and video “Mysteria” was just released, it is an electro-pop track that takes the listeners on that nostalgic electro to modern indie vibe journey. It tells the story of a captivating woman and her addiction to dancing, the nightlife, as a release of her tension.

I’m currently finishing up the video to my second release “Black Leather Fantasy” which is scheduled for release in mid February.
I’m very excited to release new music in 2022.
The plan is to release a few songs (3-4) in the next few months leading to a full album in the summer 2022.

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment?

Some of the newer Artists/Singers that I really enjoy listening to are:
Luke Steele, Empire of the Sun, Washed Out,St Lucia, MGMT, Washed Out, Chrvches, Chromatics, Arcade Fire.
The list goes on… I just love to listen to all of their sounds and productions.

Who would you your dream collaboration be with?

My dream collaboration would be Artists- Karen O of the Yeahs Yeahs Yeahs. Ruth Radelet-Chromatics, Deborah Harry-Blondie
Producers-Steve Albini, Tony Visconti, Rick Rubin

What are your future plans?

I want to continue to develop as an independent artist/songwriter. Keep enjoying the writing process and stay devoted to my artistry, with a “no frills” approach and realness, one listener at a time and hopefully that resonates with people. Looking forward to an exciting 2022.
