You may have heard us playing Rafaricho’s current track Run Away on Phoenix FM – and we caught up with him to find out more about him.

Tell us a little bit about your yourself?

Hey, I’m Rafael Richardson, (or “Rafaricho”) and I am a guitarist, pianist and singer/songwriter from up in Yorkshire! I only recently started releasing music and I’m overwhelmed with the amount of support I’ve had so far.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

When I was around 4 years old, my Mum made me take piano lessons, and I hated them! But when I started playing fun songs, that I wanted to learn and enjoyed learning, I guess I started to develop a passion for music and quickly began to immerse myself in music and began trying many new musical instruments.

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

I used to love classic rock bands, such as Queen, when I was little, but my current music doesn’t reflect this at all, my music taste has varied massively since.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

I’d say that my music is kinda calming, well at least the music I’ve released so far.. When I say calming I don’t mean Lo-fi calming, but acoustic, simple and easy to listen to.

What music have you recorded and released to date?

I’ve released 1 track so far, titled “Poison” and I’m quite happy with how that went at first, so I’ve decided to release a new song, called “Run Away”, on the 7th August. It’s primarily acoustic, and speaks a pretty typical love driven narrative, with sort of a modern twist.

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?

At the moment I listen to quite a lot of Indie bands, such as the Arctic Monkeys, The Reytons, and The Lathums. The rock bands don’t influence my music too much, but The Lathums, and some of the more tranquil bands and artists do have influences on my music.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

It sounds crazy, and probably won’t ever happen, but I would love to work with Tom Walker.

What are your plans for the future?

As I mentioned earlier, I’m releasing “Run Away” really soon, and then I have a couple tracks that I’m currently working on that’ll be out in the next few months. In the long run, I’m planning on releasing a debut album, that’s quite a big step in any artists music career.

Where can we find out more about you and your music?

You can find me on my official website rafaricho.co.uk and also on Instagram @rafaricho.
