This week on Blank Generation we dedicate the entire show to women in punk. To narrow it down we are concentrating on female punk vocalists. To my mind the entire genre was started by the Ramones in New York but subsequently taken to another level in the UK. where it became an established and meaningful scene. The same goes with women in punk, where I believe the grass roots lie with teenage upstarts, the Shangri-las, through the glam of Suzi Quatro and the attitude of Patti Smith. Many followed and were eclipsed by their UK counterparts.
If you disagree or spot any obvious omissions please comment on our Facebook page, and don’t forget to share and like whilst you are there. Whatever the opinions are, nobody can argue with the quality of the 30 + artists and their earliest tracks that are crammed into a little over two hours of girls girls girls!
