This week on Blank Generation we celebrate the release of our first own label release. The Octonary EP features 4 previously unreleased tracks by the Automatics and is a limited edition release of 300 only on 7″ white vinyl, and comes housed in a luxury sleeve with 4 page lyrics and information booklet. The purpose of the EP is to promote the EIGHT albums of unreleased Automatics material that is now ready to download and stream on Apple, Amazon and Spotify etc. Two of the tracks on the EP feature Stiff Little Fingers’ guitarist Ian McCallum and the other two feature Steve Jones and Johnny Thunders (RIP) respectively. In the spirit of new releases I took the chance to play the latest singles by the Buzzcocks and Brian Chevette of Eater, who was my guest on last week’s show. Tracks from new albums by 999, The Vibrators and The Ramonas are also aired along with fairly recent recordings by U.K. Subs, Bad Religion, Duncan Reid and The Big Heads and Big Head Nick Hughes’ Middlenight Men, who’s two great singles to date are also featured.
Elsewhere, two tracks each by The Skids and Stiff Little Fingers are blasted out as well as eight incredible covers by Lasse Pop Experience. I would encourage listeners to check the latter out on You Tube to get the full impact of what they are all about.
The Stiffs’ Phil Hendriks closes the show with a David Philp (Automatics) composition that is simply incredible. I am hoping to get Phil on the show as a guest at some point, as his career in music is interesting to say the least. Apart from being frontman of the incredible Stiffs, his solo stuff is amazing, and he is also in current lineups of the Bay City Rollers and the Glitter Band. Did I forget to say his wife is the best Blondie tribute act out there as well?
Please remember to like, comment and share on Facebook and beyond.
