Our latest artist feature is with Sal Delgado – we’ve been playing his recent track Missing You here on Phoenix FM, so we caught up to have a chat about his music.
Hi Sal! Tell us a little bit about your yourself?
I was raised in Los Angeles but currently live in Kern County in California. I’m 46 years old, married and have 7 children and currently run S&J Security Services, our own business in partnership with my wife.
When did you first start to develop a passion for music?
I have always had music around me everywhere I go – it followed me as a kid. My uncle was in a group and played guitar; in high school my friends were in music groups. I used to go to a lot of concerts and loved music. Later I started DJing.
Which artists did you listen to while growing up?
I listen to a variety of music from alternative rock to disco, rap, heavy metal, oldies, classic rock ,classical and Spanish music. I was all over the road and still am – I just love and appreciate music!
How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?
I would say it has a very laid back feeling to it, just relating and very soothing to the mind and heart.
What music have you recorded and released to date?
I played in a few groups in my past as a young man – always sang and played guitar, but also dabbled with bass and drums.
I started my solo career in 2014 when I decided I wanted to put my talent to use and put my music out there. So I started recording and submitted my songs to iTunes, Amazon Music, Spotify and CD Baby.
Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?
I enjoy listening to a lot of oldies, pop and modern music. I also listen to good old 80s rock.
Who would your dream collaboration be with?
I am not a typical starstruck person so my dream would be to play alongside my two sons – Wolfgang on bass and Sal jr on drums.
What are your plans for the future?
To continue to enjoy doing what I love and write as many songs as I can, and work as a influential individual.
