Phoenix FM in the Community – Something for Nothing?

Phoenix FM is a not for profit Community Radio station run mostly by our highly valued unpaid volunteers.

Just some of our wonderful volunteer presenters.

Just some of our wonderful volunteer presenters.

Like anyone else though we have bills to pay and need to raise funds for the upkeep and maintenance of studio equipment and general expenses.
We do a lot to support the local community, featuring local charities and community groups on our shows and on our events guide and have often supported and help organise fundraising events for other community groups.
However when a highly profitable business asks for our help, we do expect them to at least meet our expenses and possibly more.
So the other day we received an email from a local shopping centre in the middle of Brentwood.
Local Shopping Centre: We’d like Phoenix FM to help out with an open day we’re running in June.

Phoenix : is there a fee?

Local Shopping Centre: We can’t pay you as you’re not on our list of preferred suppliers. But if you work for us on the day, we MIGHT be able to add you to our list, in which case we MIGHT be able to pay you for something in the future.

* Local Shopping Centre is owned by a property company which made a profit of £121,400,000 in 2015
