Friday Night Extra with guest Corrie Castleman

jonty-corrieCorrie made a return visit to be with us tonight. She came a couple of months ago to tell us that she was going to undertake a sponsored banger rally, driving from Torquay to Vegas in southern Spain. Jonty interviewed her as she gave us details of the four day event, dressed entirely as a Pink Lady, straight from the film Grease. She was somewhat surprised to find another group of Pink Ladies taking part, and even more surprised to find they were guys in drag! She was raising money for Fostering Network. To date she has raised over £3,000. She also spoke about the on-going need for people to be involved in fostering in Essex, particularly teenagers. Anyone interested could contact Corrie directly on 0800801530 or by visiting www.essex.gov.uk/fostering. If you would like to support the Pink Ladies drive go to Justgiving and search for Pink Ladies. In the second hour Jonty told us about the Essex Youth Forum and how young people aged between 11 – 18 years can be involved. He is standing for election. Musically we featured Leon Russell, who passed away this week. We also had a feature on Joni Mitchel’s classic song Both sides now.

Tonight’s playlist
Booker T & MGs – Crazy – show theme
John Terifa – Don’t go – for all Americans listening.
Frankie Avalon – Beauty School Dropout. From the soundtrack of Grease. Carrie said they played the album many times on the trip.
Michael Buble – Song for you – Corrie’s favourite singer. Song written by Leon Russell.
Diesel Park West – God only knows
Beach Boys – Friends – for Michael
Jim Reeves – I love you because – requested by Phyl for Derek
Shires – A thousand hallelujahs
Ace of Base – All that she wants – requested by Patrick. This was a massive world-wide hit.
Sachal Jazz – Take 5
Post Modern Jukebox – Call me maybe – for Paul who loved it on Facebook.
Nils Lofgren – Shine silently – for John and Isabella, who requested that the whole show be relaxing after a stressful day.
Moody Blues – Other side of life – title track from the 1986 album
David Bowie – Let’s dance – for Chris icing Mark’s birthday cake with a scene of Moses parting the Red Sea!
Leon Russell – Tightrope – a U.S.A. hit for Leon who died on 13th of November.
Justin Hayward – I dreamed last night
Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt & Emmylou Harris – To know you is to love you – from the album Trio.
Judy Collins – Both sides now
