Phoenix FM awarded grant by Brentwood Localism Share Fund

A big thank you to our friends and supporters in Brentwood Borough Council who have awarded Phoenix FM £4,000 towards its new Studio 2 project. We’re out shopping for the rest of the day …

25 local organisations were awarded a total of £60,000 in the Brentwood Localism Share Fund by Brentwood Council’s Asset Panel on 21 November.

The bidding for the second annual round of funding proved very popular with 40 applications received from local organisations. The grants have been given to organisations – including environmental, arts, sports and childrens groups – for a wide range of initiatives to improve the quality of life for local people through care breaks, allotments, whiteboards and much more.

Chairman of the Asset, Infrastructure and Localism Panel, Councillor Russell Quirk says:

“It’s a great privilege to both look at the many excellent bids that the Share Fund received and also to allocate the money to many worthy projects. This initiative truly embraces the spirit of localism and the Big Society.

“I was impressed by the quality of the bids but I was also pleased to see how well community groups and voluntary effort thrive in Brentwood – and long may that be so.”

The Council allocated £67,500 for projects to be supported by the Share Fund during 2012/13. Some of this money was spent earlier this year on street parties celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and a small amount of money not spent last year was also added to the pot.
