Friday Night Extra 6.6.14 with guest Adrian McConnaughie, Chaplain at Brentwood School.

Brentwood School Chaplain Adrian McConnaughie and his son Jonty were my guests in the studio tonight. Adrian talked about his role at the school, where he is just about to finish his first academic year. Including staff, the community at the school is over 2,000 and he is chaplain for all of them. We heard about the leavers service and how meaningful this had been with them all singing the Oasis song, Wonder-wall. Later we heard how he had originally been a Chemist, then head of Chemistry at a prestigious public school and living in Glastonbury, before feeling the call to ordination and training at Trinity College Bristol at the age of forty. A curacy at Bath Abbey led to a chaplaincy post in Wales before coming to Brentwood. He also talked about his love of reading. Jonty read the events guide and instantly a listener responded we should offer him the post of newsreader. We had the usual selection of odd news stories, including a five year old from China drawing all over his father’s passport and the authorities in South Korea, where the family had travelled on holiday, refusing to let him leave the country. There was an added bonus when in the Sky News bulletin at nine we heard about a D Day veteran who was missing from his care home and was found with other veterans in Normandy today.
