Friday Night Extra 30.5.14 with Chris Day from Brentwood Foodbank

Chris Day was the studio guest tonight from the Brentwood Foodbank. In a fascinating extended interview he told us about the history of the Foodbank movement in the U.K. and about the local Foodbank in Brentwood. The figures of over 3,500 hundred clients from April 13- April 14 locally was shocking. He spoke about the system of how people have to be referred from Social Services and they can only have a maximum of three baskets a year. He also told us about the wide range of items that are needed and where they can be donated. This includes at Ingatestone Parish Church and Budgens in Ingatestone High Street as well as during the week to Dodd Road Church and the Breakthru church in Brentwood. He also told us of a collection at Waitrose in Billericay that produce over one ton of items. Many schols have also been involved in collections. You can find out more about this great work on www.brentwood.foodbank.org.uk We also had lots of odd news items in the second hour and many requests.
