Artist Feature: [man among men]

You may have heard us playing Beyond All Measure by [man among men] recently on Phoenix FM – we’ve added it to our playlists and you can hear it on various shows at the moment.

But who are [man among men]? We caught up with KV from the band to find out.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

I loved music very much very young, it was country first, Kenny Rogers, Glenn Campbell, etc.

But later my friends got me into Kool and The Gang, The Commodores, Rick James, I heard on the radio.

My older brother got me into AC/DC, Rush, Supertramp, Journey, yadda, yadda, πŸ˜€

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

Well fudge, I pretty much walked into that, lol, πŸ˜€

But I’d say after those it progressed, got into the Stones a lil bit, um, Def Leppard, Ratt, the Crue, ACCEPT

As I got to my teens an started wanting to play guitar my mom is the one who pointed out to me I could sing so kind a started both around the same time, just never together very well, πŸ˜€

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

I always labeled it “Hard Rock Fusion”, but the genre’s went other ways with a lot of core this and core that as if the heavier metal bands were all marines or something, lol, πŸ˜€

But I think, feel, it incorporates a lot of what the core genre’s are doing but drastically different in many ways yet here an there you can feel and hear the parallels within each

What music have you recorded and released to date?

Sheesh Paul, well, we had Outlaw(z) and R-Complex, and Epiphany… and I think you even played The Distance last year but I’d have to ask you to check an make sure, chuckles, πŸ˜› But there were the singles and then the EP, “The Experiencing Process of Rediscovery” and now Beyond All Measure is the first song for side B for my LP, “01”

The EP technically is side A of “01”

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?

Hmm, damn, that’s tough, so many, new an old, I love hearing new music an am not bias as long as what I’m hearing is either really f’n good or innovative

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

Hmm, well, I kinda already am, lol, Derek Sherinian plays keys and synths on Beyond All Measure, and he and Kevin Moore are my favorite keyboardists from the first Dream Theater albums

Atma Anur, played with my all time favorite guitarists, Jason Becker, and my next biggest fav and inspiration Marty Friedman, as well as he’s played with Richie Kotzen, Greg Howe, and many more, but those guitarists are all fav’s of mine back to back as well…

Martin plays with ACCEPT from Germany an I was a young pup in Jr High when Balls to the Wall came out in the 80’s, it’s about the time the PMRC was brewing up an mom’s against drunk drivers turned evangelic vigilante’s and were hard onto banning bands like Motley Crue for their upside down pentagram on their Shout at the Devil album, which looked cool, but now I’m older, stupid, but they were young, wanting attention on top of Elektra I’m sure had some occultists within the organization happy with it, but long story short, those moms wanted blood, lol, an then along came ACCEPT with Balls to the Wall from Germany an these American moms literally were speechless… I loved it, hahaha πŸ˜€ They didn’t know what to do or make of it!? Here they were after young dudes wearing make up an heels an leather like ole metal groupie women, then all of a sudden here’s this German guy in an camo tank top, camo pants, army boots with a Judas Priest like guitar duo behind him chanting Viking chants, lol, disclosing in his lyrics on what was the dawn before MTV what was it he said, “let’s plug a bomb into everyone’s ass”, sorry, your probably not allowed to say that…

Anyways, good times, funny memories of making the best out of senseless drama, oh well, no worries, Beyond All Measure has no explicit lyrics within.

What are your plans for the future?

I would like to make an living making music, enough to sustain and build an future doing something I love but more with it

I feel music like many other things can attribute to an individuals awareness, knowledge, and inspire

With that I personally would like to be in an better position to help make positive change for common good and all humanity

I probably sound generic, and nerdy or like an artist who wants to go political

but aren’t artists human too, eh?

It’s all what we make an take from it, each individuals heart and mind to determine what to take in, what to leave out, and what to accept without bias.
