We caught up with Owen to find out more about his life and his music.
Which artists did you listen to while growing up?
Supertramp were a big part of me when growing up. The piano work and song melodies were insanely dynamic. Songs like, ‘School’, ‘Dreamer’. I really enjoyed listening to Roger Hodgson’s vocal performances. Also I need to mention the relationship between the bass and drums. Made me fall in love with this style of music.
How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?
It would be very difficult for me to describe my music to someone without referencing an array of artists. All I would say is, don’t just listen to the first 10 seconds of my songs. I’m not a fan of keeping the melody the same after the first chorus, so key changes and melody shifts for vocals will be something you hear in my songs a lot.
What music have you recorded and released to date?
‘Midnight Madness’ is the first record! This year I’ve written about 10 songs, but they all need to go through the system, so I aim to release a few more singles before the end of the year. I believe the later songs will help the audience understand my musical mind better.
Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?
I recently started listening to Blur again, as they have released a few songs. Going back through their catalogue. My vocals have been compared to Damon Albarn, so that was an interesting compliment. I can’t say that they’ve influenced me too much though. That title belongs to artists such as, Arctic Monkeys, Biffy Clyro, Supertramp, Frankie Valli and The Clash
Who would your dream collaboration be with?
If I were given the chance to collaborate with someone, it would have to be, controversially, Roger Waters. He is so confident in his creativity and I would like to see what he seems to be good or bad, musically speaking Imagine him in the studio telling you, your idea is rubbish, during a writing session?
