We’ve been playlisting Dirty Cafe by WT here on Phoenix FM – but who is WT? We caught up with him to find out more …
When did you first start to develop a passion for music?
I’ve loved music as far back as I can remember. My grandfather had a nightclub that showcased many great black stars in Pensacola, Florida as part of what was called the Chitlin Circuit. I remember stars like BB King, Tina Turner and Gladys Knight coming there.
Which artists did you listen to while growing up?
I am a child of the 1980s. My favourite musicians were Michael Jackson, Prince and Duran Duran.
Michael Jackson had infectious music coupled with outstanding dance. Prince was the bad boy of rock, soul and funk. He was a creative genius. Duran Duran had (and still have) that poetic music that can take you away on flights of wild imagination.
How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?
I have a mix of Pop, Rock and Soul music. I hope people see MJ, Prince and Duran Duran in what I make.
What music have you recorded and released to date?
I have a lot of music on YouTube and Soundcloud. I would hope that people would search for WT and Gallery Of The Mind on YouTube if they are interested in hearing and seeing my music.
Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?
Ed Sheeran, Miguel, and Mariah Carey.
Who would your dream collaboration be with?
Duran Duran
What are your plans for the future?
Maybe put together an album of my songs, try to publish some more of my writing – I have a Star Trek episode named “Sensor Glitch” that I am dying to get out and on the dream level I would LOVE to do a movie based on a trilogy of books I’ve written called “Dreams Unseen.”
Where can we find our more about you?<
I have a website at www.galleryofthemind.com.
