Rob Saggs from CHESS joined us this evening on the phone. Rob told us that CHESS seek to relive homelessness and related hardship amongst single adults in Chelmsford and Essex through the provision of support services and temporary accommodation that helps them move on in their lives. There has been considerable public funding to help homeless people during the lockdown. However, he is concerned about the level of the funding and the long-term situation. Rob said if anyone saw a homeless person on the streets they should contact www.streetlink.org and that will ensure a visit to see the needs that need to be address. CHESS provided 32 bed spaces across the five local authorities where they work. Rob told us about the problems that the charity had with fundraising during this period and the creative ways some people have sought to support the work. More information is available on www.cheshomeless.org. The work continues to develop and he said there was a big announcement to be made on June 2nd.
