Julie gives us the low-down on exhibition by art society

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

We welcomed Julie Gowers from the Brentwood Art Society into the studio last week to chat about the society and its annual exhibition.

The exhibition is currently taking place in the Becket Gallery in Brentwood Library every day until Thursday 28th November – and it’s the 61st year it’s taken place!

As in previous years the work on display represents artwork in a variety of media and techniques. Subjects and themes are inspired by the tutor led sessions attended by members, work carried out while on location during one of the trips arranged by the Society and individual projects.

Julie spoke to Michelle Ward about the launch, attended the Brentwood’s Mayor, Keith Parker, and also about the good work the society does.

You can hear it again on our website at phoenixfm.com.

Julie is a friend of the station who has been in many times over the years, doing great work to promote the organisation. We’ve been meeting up recently with many representatives of the Brentwood arts scene to see if we can coordinate more publicity, so keep an ear out for more features on air.

* There are lots more great guests appearing in the studio over the next week on Phoenix FM.

* Apprentice contestant and cricket fan Dean Ahmad will be chatting to Daren Mootoo and Brett Sanders on Thursday’s edition of 98 Not Out, and reality TV star and Orient fan James “Arg” Argent will be chatting with hosts Andy Gilson, Darin Burrows and Lee Boyce on the Orient Hour the same evening.

* Chris Franklin and Jules Knowler from Saint Francis Hospice will be talking to Michelle Ward about Frankie’s Festive Fun Run on Eat My Brunch.

* There will also be live music in the studio from Koray, We Punch Tigers and Katie Wilson.
