Rising stars drop into the studio

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

We had a visit from more homegrown talent last week with the visit of Past Kings to the Phoenix FM studio.

Past Kings are a four-piece band from Brentwood – Sam, Jack, Matt and James – who have only been together for three months or so as a band but already have a powerful, polished and confident sound.

The band visited Nick Field’s Curveballs show and played acoustic versions of some of the tracks from their forthcoming EP “Aftermath” which can be seen and heard again at phoenixfm.com.

Curveballs is now in its 12th year of promoting local bands and singers and we have other shows such as Chay Appleyard’s 50 Shades Of Chay which are devoted to the local music scene. We also continue to feature unsigned Essex acts on other shows including our mainstream daytime shows.

It’s a big part of what we do as a community radio station and we’re always on the lookout for new talent.

* More live music can be heard on Phoenix FM over the next seven days with live sessions coming up from Perfect Blue Sky and Breaking 3.

* We’ll also have a wide selection of non-musical guests too including Gavin Perrett from Will Protect who will be offering up investment advice and members of the team from Saint Francis Hospice who will be updating listeners on their latest fundraising and events.
