With Jonty on holiday and no studio guests, it was just you, me and the music. Lots of people contacted the show tonight, all people busy doing something with the show as accompaniment. Filling in tax forms, washing and ironing, dusting, playing with grandchildren and just chilling with a cool drink were some of the activities. A film is being planned around the metioriic rise of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardie. We celebrated the work of Ken Barrie, who died today and is best know for being the original voice of Postman Pat. Less well known is that he had a pop career in the early i960s as Les Carle. He recorded on the Embassy label. This was label that produced cover versions of chart songs. these were sold excclusively in Woolworths and were cheaper than the originals. Also passing today was actress Vivien Gray, best known as Mrs Mangel in 250+ edpisodes of the Aussie soap Neighbours in the 1980s. When she left the role in 1988 she gave up acting, saying, “I could barely set foot outside my own front door without someone screaming abuse at horrid old Mrs. Mangel.” We also considered whether there was anything that listeners had bought that they regretted buying. The items included the second Wizzard album, tax manuals, tobasco sauce and a very expensive carpet cleaner that never worked properly. Good to hear via e-mail from Susan and Ian from near Reading tonight, the first time we have heard from them for some time.
