Tonight we began by acknowledging the influence of Raphael Ravenscroft. He was paid just £27 as a session musician for the saxophone playing on Gerry Rafferty’s 1978 track Baker Street. He died this week. This track is credited with influencing many other tracks, particularly in the 1980s, to include saxophones. Gerry Rafferty is said to have averaged £80,000 each year in royalties on the track. In 2011 Raphael recorded a tribute to commemorate the funeral of Gerry Rafferty called Forgiveness. We also acknowledged the passing of Alvin Stardust. Odd news stories included President Obama having a credit card refused in a restaurant, the fact that most gladiators were vegetarians and a Garden Centre in Hampshire is looking for two reindeer walkers.
How many tracks featuring saxophones can you identify from the music played tonight?
