Wimbledon without the tennis!

With Wimbledon around the corner you can get your strawberry-eating practice in at Brentwood’s annual Strawberry Fair.

P1040248

The event, which takes place on Saturday 21st June, on Shenfield Common, from 11am to 4pm, will have lots of activities for all the family, including small fun fair rides, a bungee trampoline, inflatables, small farm animals and outdoor play activities from the Children’s Centre, Natural Foundations and Creation Station.

You can enjoy local entertainment in our Big Top hosted by Phoenix FM, with performances from Funky Voices, Essex Dance Theatre, Michelle Ward and Brentwood Shakespeare Company. There will also be a Baby Ballet music and dance session at 11.30am, so bring along your toddlers to join in.

The full entertainment line up is:

11.30 – 11.50 BabyBallet
12.00 – 12.15 Bradshaw’s Theatre School
12.30 – 12.50 Matthew Shepherd
13.00 – 13.20 Cameron Southcott
13.30 – 13.55 Funky Voices
14.00 – 14.15 Presentation by the Mayor of Brentwood, Cllr Vicky Davies, who will hand out the prizes for the Classic Car Rally with Nick from Nick’s Tyres
14.30 – 14.50 Michelle Ward
15.00 – 15.20 Essex Dance Theatre
15.30 – 15.50 Brentwood Shakespeare Company

And for car and film enthusiasts, there will be a range of Classic Cars with a Best in Show competition sponsored by Nick’s Tyre Services Ltd. It will feature a 1920 Averling and Porter Traction Steam Engine, and a range of vehicles made famous by TV and film, including two cars from the film Bullitt. These have recently been involved in a short car chase remake as homage by Silverstone Classic to the Ford Mustang, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

And we can’t forget the event’s namesake – strawberries, which will be provided by Doddinghurst Road Church at their Strawberries and Cream stall. There will also be a variety of food and drink, including local beer and cider from Brentwood Brewing Company and a Pimms stall by Brentwood Breakfast Rotary Club.

There will also be a range of stalls, local artists and crafters and you can learn about the work of local charities.

Please note that there is no parking at the event, but visitors can use the nearby Town Centre car parks or public transport where possible.

Chair of the Community Committee, Cllr Karen Chilvers, said: “I’m a big fan of Wimbledon and as the Strawberry Fair is two days before the tournament starts it’s the perfect way to get in the mood with strawberries and cream.

“The Strawberry Fair is a day out for all the family. We have some local entertainment and some great food and drink to enjoy. Please come along to celebrate the best of the British summer!”

Volunteers are still being sought for the event – if you can help out any time between 8am and 5pm please contact Natasha Keens at natasha.keens@brentwood.gov.uk or phone 01277 312801.
